AI has made its way out of science fiction and into our devices. It’s not just a quirky feature for those interested in technology anymore, it’s a real presence in our day-to-day lives, both at home and at work. The S24 looks like it might be stepping forward as one of the first smartphones to integrate AI technology into its software, in a way that is really focused on making changes that are practical and useful.

AI-generated messages

Messages and responses created with artificial intelligence have been on the scene for a while, but they’ve mostly been limited to completing your sentences or offering generic replies. What makes the Google message software in the S24 series go beyond that boundary is how well it considers context. The responses suggested aren’t just more accurate, but more personable. If you receive a message from a friend apologizing for missing your birthday, your smartphone will generate a range of appropriate responses. These replies are all appropriate, but they’ll cover more ranges of emotion, such as Excited or Chill.

You’ll find that the Samsung keyboard is also staying up to speed with its real-time spelling corrections, but also offers suggestions for words and phrases that might fit the tone of the conversation better, again using context to produce better answers.

Get smarter with Circle to Search

Recent generative AI software has been giving well-established search engines competition, which is a seriously impressive achievement. Samsung has tried to bring some of that power to the S24, implementing Google’s new ability to provide generative answers to search queries. That means your questions will provide more helpful summaries and suggestions for follow-up queries you could follow.

The move towards summarizing information for easier understanding will also extend to webpages. Using a feature called Browsing Assist, you’ll have the option to break down web pages into more concise information to save time and simplify your search. There’s also plans for future updates to the feature to include highlighting of all the core parts of that webpage you’ve condensed.

Google also provides support for a new way to search; circling content in images. With this feature, users can draw a circle around content like a YouTube video, an image of a landmark, or an image of a product, and then receive Google search results for that specific content as AI recognizes what you’re looking at.

Rapid translation

The S24 looks ready to break down some language barriers. Live Translate is a technology that will use AI to translate phone calls in real-time, changing both your speech on the receiver end and the speech that you receive. There’s also instant translation of texts you send and receive, both through your mobile service and through Chat Assist, which works on third-party apps including Whats App and Instagram. Even the Samsung keyboard itself can provide instant translations.

Organizing information

With so much information stored and recorded on phones, the use of AI tech to better organize it may be a relief. The S24 Ultra will see some new and useful updates for the S Pen’s connection, meaning that when you write words with it, they’ll automatically be adjusted to align, space out, and generally look more organized than how you input them.

For users trying to get records of conversations, the updated transcription software could also be a huge help. Not only does it accurately record and transcribe conversations, but also picks up on different speakers and provides a generated summary of the recorded speech.

Notes are getting a neat update too, intelligently adding format to the text you’ve typed up, and changing fonts and colors as it recognizes which parts of the content should be subtitles or bullet points. For further style, the note icons also use AI summarization, creating text previews of their content that displays on the files themselves.

AI integration

The S24 seems packed with AI power, enabling better search results, better information storage, better translation, and better communication between you and your device in general. Some smartphone releases over the past few years seem to have included fewer and fewer unique features. Are we entering a new era of AI updates pushing smartphone progress?
